2020 ONLINE EDITION

The 2020 online edition continues with five new interviews featuring award-winning achievements from the past year, plus a special Spotlight presentation that usually serves as the mid-point of the core programme at the conference in Dubrovnik, this year delivered online by the Director of Museums Association UK Sharon Heal. In the IMAGINES section we feature the immersive Wonderland exhibition by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and the GEED Inclusive Digital Platform / LIVDEO project at the Fine Arts and Archaeology Museum Besançon. The core programme interviews again cover variety of success stories, from the Municipality Museum of Schiedam, which has in recent years become a meeting place for local residents, Conservation project of one of the greatest masterpieces of Romanesque art in Europe - Portal of Glory of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, and the Skissernas Museum, boasting a collection that reflects both the aesthetic values and the relationship between art and society.

In this interview with our Jury member Carina Jaatinen, Deirdre Carasso presents the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam which won the BankGiro Loterij Museumprijs 2019. The museum is praised for its unconventional approach in connecting people from various backgrounds through art, stories and history.

Our Adam Corsini talks to Anat Meiri  about Wonderland, the first ever large-scale immersive exhibition celebrating the timeless stories of Lewis Carroll and Alice’s adventures on screen. Its immersive technology and its integration with curatorial practice earned the project the Best of the GLAMi Awards title in 2019.

Jury member Viv Golding interviews Carmen Arias Romero about the Portal of Glory project, which won the European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2019 in the category Conservation. The restoration of the Portal of the Santiago Cathedral has been one of Barrié Foundation’s major and most ambitious projects in heritage conservation so far.

In this interview IMAGINES Jury member Sara Devine talks with Ciprian Melian about the GEED/LIVDEO project at the Fine Arts and Archaeology Museum Besançon, which won the Museums and the Web GLAMi Award 2019 in Behind-the-Scenes category. The goal was to offer a homogeneous user experience across different tools, without any constraints for visitors.

Our Jury member Carina Jaatinen interviews Patrick Amsellem from the Skissernas Museum, awarded as the Museum of the Year 2019 in Sweden for showing “how an innovative and strategic holistic perspective looks like in theory and in practice”.

As this year’s Special “Spotlight” presentation the Director of Museums Association Sharon Heal delivers an overview of UK museums’ activities in 2020, and asks can radical new networks, co-curation and community partnerships enable museums to create a sustainable future and support campaigns for social justice, equality and tolerance?
